I'm definitely starting to lose track of the days...which is a good thing, I think. If it weren't for writing every night, I'd have no idea what day it is in my mobilization to Oz. The days are becoming a blur, running together, and I've basically become numb to it. Day in, day out...repeat. Again..another good thing for me in writing this.
As the east coast woke up back home, a good friend who runs the morning program in Kansas asked if I could call in during the 8am hour (my 5pm) and be interviewed live on the air to talk about Flag Day today, the raising and lowering of my friend's father's flag yesterday and about the celebrity chefs who visited a few days back. Up until then, it was a fairly slow day with a few meetings and not much else. Tomorrow through Saturday will be plenty busy.
After I finished up my live broadcast/interview, I headed on back for the night and downloaded about 20 songs on iTunes, courtesy of one of my best friends back home. She recently sent me an iTunes card which is perfect timing because music is about all that keeps my runs in this dust bowl around the base interesting. With the slow Wi-Fi, I didn't get on the road to run until just after 7:30pm. Before the run, though, I got another gift...a very caffeine-infused gift from a great friend. I've mentioned Green Beans Coffee (see logo on right side) many times and the free coffees I've been getting but they also let people donate a coffee card to a specific person via their website and then they add $2.00 to it on top of the gift. Thanks, RunnerGirl! I'll start putting it to use tomorrow!
It was a great run...the best and fastest since I got here. Within the first mile, I had the moon off my right shoulder at nearly 98% full and to my left was the mountain range where the sun had just ducked below the summit creating an orange glow and dark mountain ridge outline. Then, two Blackhawk helicopters flew right over my head...just awesome! Of course, great jammin' tunes in my ears. In the end, it was another great 8 miles. I got back after they stopped serving dinner so I put together a cold-cut sandwich on some wheat bread (which they always leave out) and headed back to my room. Another day of low calories done and I have definitely lost weight. My uniform is very comfy but it's easy to tell when weight is lost...especially right after they're laundered. I don't necessarily skip meals but I do substitute some meals with a Clif Bar and a whole bunch of water. I like the weight loss and given that the meals here are nothing to get excited about, it's easy to not go eat.
That's about it, folks. Simple day. Good day. Another day closer to home.
Goodnight, everyone.
