Well, the clock on my screen reads 16 minutes and is counting down. I'm at a USO tonight, using their free computer which I had to wait 1/2 hour to use so tonight's post has to be short. Yesterday's post was exhausting so I'll keep it short and sweet and write more about my trip once I return to my home base.
The brief to all of the combat engineers went very well this morning. This was a trip I'd identified as being crucial for the north so I was very happy that it came to fruition and I believe the audience was deeply appreciative. One thing was evident...my name and reputation preceded me. It's all good! Great to see accomplishments from my work that directly benefit the warfighter...kinda makes all of this worth it.
Afterwards, I had lunch with some soldiers at an authentic Afghan restaurant. I can't really begin to tell you what I had...or spell it, but it was very good. The flat bread, or "naan" was REALLY good. I could've just eaten that straight and been happy. Afterwards, I did some shopping for Tin Man and Scarecrow then headed out to catch the helo back to the German base where I started this morning.
The rest of the day was spent, for the most part, sitting at the airstrip terminal, waiting for future flight times to be posted for the following days...extreme boredom, that's for sure, but some great conversation with those around me. I even shared some of my dad's beef jerky with some soldiers who were passing by. "Thanks, Dad!!! Of course, they loved it! They all do!" Later on in the evening, we headed to the German pizza shop for some homemade pizza and non-alcoholic brew...I got a calzone. It was so nice just to relax and enjoy some good quality food and a beverage...even as fake as it may be. :-)
So there you have it...Day 101...probably the fastest-typed post yet...less than 7min until I'm expired!!! So tired, too...those 4 hours have certainly caught up with me....was very hot all day and flew twice. Thank you ALL for your support and your messages. I really do appreciate them all!!!
Goodnight, everyone.
