Day 175

Glory, hallelujah, October is here! Like all things, if you start things out with a run, you stand a better chance at success so I did just that. I hit the road at 5am for a sunrise run. This time, though, I took a turn to head out to the outskirts of the base where the new prison is here on base. I'm glad I did, too. No dust, no traffic, relatively new roads, and a spectacular view of the sunrise over the Hindu Kush Mountains. The run was a loop route, too, which I had never run before. I left my room with a goal of 6 miles before work and believe it or not, it was an exact 6 mile loop. Perfect.

Once back in my room, I got ready and headed in for the day. Soon after cleaning up my inbox, I got one of two last haircuts in this country. Again, not thrilled with the haircut but it'll do, I suppose. I will be going back to the other location where I've been happiest here in a few weeks. This location is not bad but she can't seem to make the top even! ARGH!!! The rest of the day was quiet (boss still gone) and we locked up the office before 4pm and called it a day. For the rest of the day, I made a few of my free Skype calls, watched a movie, took a couple hour nap, had some dinner, and here I am. Just passing the hours, really. I'd love to head down to the movie theater and catch a flick, to Outback for some dinner, then a Starbucks to cap off the night but alas, none of that exists over here. Perhaps NEXT month I can do those things, right? Meantime back at combat training, my relief has concluded Week #1 with the Army drill sergeants and an endless supply of "Hooah!" and Army slang. "Enjoy your Sunday, brother! You only have this one and 2 more where you won't have to work! Enjoy those civilian clothes tomorrow, too...you'll soon forget what they are." Well...another short post here on Day 175. Calling it a night and intending to sleep in tomorrow. Another "Hail and Farewell" cookout tomorrow afternoon. I feel like I'm sneaking up on Day 180. I can't believe I've been away from Kansas for nearly 6 months straight. Toooooo long!

Goodnight, everyone.
