I woke up this morning (several times, actually...restless night yet again) and realized that a Navy conference call was only 10 minutes away at 9pm EST. So that's how my day began as I brewed my espresso...good 'ol Skype 800 number service and a 1hr conference call with some of my fellow Supply Corps officers. I'm on the regional board and we're planning our 2012 conference so I really want to make these meetings and be a part of that forward movement that takes us to St. Louis next year. Afterwards, I headed on in and before I even got to the office, my boss and Marine colonel were back! EARLY!!! Big 'ol surprise there but that's OK. The afterburners got fired up today and I was busy all day long which kept the day cruising along. The colonel loves the treats I have, too, so I was able to share even more of my baked goods from past care packages that I've been keeping sealed up to share and keep fresh. Even though busy, it was uneventful. One thing was flippin' hilarious, though. I'm sure most of you have seen "A Few Good Men" with Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson. Well, our Marine colonel was recently notified he'll be taking over at a command in southern California and I mentioned to him that I can just see him sitting in a dimly lit office, smoking a cigar, and palm trees blowing in the wind outside his window...just like Jack Nicholson did as Colonel Nathan Jessup in the movie. Well, that's all it took. He was quoting lines from Colonel Jessup for the rest of the day. Mostly, it was the scenes where he was making fun of the young, Navy officer (Tom Cruise) in his white uniform (poking at me, of course!) but eventually, we got some quotes from the court scene. How fitting of a Marine colonel quoting a Marine colonel from such a classic flick. I was rolling in laughter every time he started...you just had to be there!
After another late conference call Stateside, we headed on out for the night. Dinner with the colonel then in to my room to relax, watch some TV, and call it a night. Happy to close out another day and getting excited as October looms. October is one month I've been dreaming about for quite awhile and it's almost here. Looking forward to it!
Goodnight, everyone.
