Today was a very "joint" kind of day. Joint meaning the services, not the narcotics that are fueled by this country's number one export! Our colonel was still in so from beginning to end, it was one sailor, one Air Force guy, an Army lieutenant colonel, and our Marine colonel. 4 services, 4 different uniforms, and 4 different cultures. It's an interesting environment and one kinda cool to sit back and observe. If you pay close attention, you'll notice the mannerisms, the acronyms used, the different forms of respect, and a variety of jokes and jabs at each other...all in fun, of course. From a work perspective, it was a very slow, typical Monday as it's Sunday night going into Monday morning Stateside. One thing I did get wrapped up today was my detachment evaluation. It's a critical piece of paperwork that is necessary when I leave here and will be used in the future when I'm looked at for promotion. I've been working on it for months and have had my Navy mentor chopping it for me and offering suggestions. Since our colonel was in town and I wanted his signature on it, I wrapped it up and had my chain of command approve it and got his signature. DONE! Honestly, there isn't much more to do except for turn over my job when my relief gets here before I can go home. Most people wait until the last minute to do their evaluation but not me. I saw that coming long ago and refused to let that stand in my way...so it's DONE. Still, my relief has the same 4 week "Road" journey as I did...and he's on it.
As the day slowly wore on, I did talk to all three of my ladies to wish them a great new week. Brief but valuable conversations. As 6pm passed, we locked up the office and headed on out...just an evening of relaxing and hopefully getting a better night sleep. Last night I slept horribly, waking up multiple times all night long. I need a better night sleep tonight. (it could be my still-sore quads) With that...that's pretty much it for today. A non-eventful, relatively good day. I can see the Mile 80 marker, by the way...
Goodnight, everyone.
