Hey, before I forget...I forgot one little tidbit from last night during my run. While I was on my 10 miler and passing by the tail end of the airstrip, I was fortunate again to be in the right place, at the right time. Two back-to-back F-15E Strike Eagles were taking off...in the dark of night, and right over my head! At night, all you can see is their gray silhouette and the blue, glowing afterburner cone coming out both of their engines. Not only is it a brilliant sight to see, but the sound is deafening right as they pass over. That was the only time I stopped running last night during my run and I'll do it every time!
Today was pretty busy all day. I had my normal Friday morning meeting with those who run the base. Just before that, though, I signed up officially for the Air Force Marathon on September 17th. (here's the scoop on their deployed marathon program) The marathon that will take place on the same day at Wright Patterson Air Force Base is sold out but open to all deployed service-members. We'll be considered official finishers and receive the tech tee and finisher's medal. Pretty awesome! My 26th marathon will certainly be one I will never forget.
After the morning meeting, I stopped by the Joint Task Force headquarters who rule over the whole eastern part of the country to work with an Air Force officer on policy she is writing and needed my input. After that, some lunch, then back to the office. The remainder of the day went pretty quick and wrapped up with the planning for tomorrow's Hail and Farewell AND my promotion! The steak and chicken are thawed and we're good to go! Back in my room tonight, I spent quite a bit of time researching Bed & Breakfast locations and secluded cabins near my home in "Kansas." "Dorothy" and I are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary soon after my return and I was hunting for that perfect place to take her...and I'm pretty sure I found it. It's very secluded, no internet, no phone, and no cell service. It's a very nicely appointed cabin in the middle of nature which I love so much (and wine country!) and even has a hot tub out back. Yea...it is true: with each passing day, the 'mental consumption' of 'all-things-Dorothy' increases. I cannot wait to get back to her! I'll have about 3 weeks of terminal leave when I get home and it will involve lots of time with my girls but away-time with Dorothy is an absolute must. Still, though...it's a ways off but I'm on the downhill part of my deployment so here's to another day done, and nearly another week done.
Goodnight, everyone.
