Day 42

Good news. No 3:30am wake-up calls last night. I did delay going to bed though which cost me sleep so I only ended up with 5 hours. More news, though, throughout Oz today in the Stars and Stripes newspaper.  You need not look further than the front page to get an idea of things going on. Click here to check it out briefly just for a summary. The "fighting season" is clearly in full gear.

Saturday, yes, but a work day nonetheless. After a busy morning in the office, I spent the afternoon feeling like a salesman. Armed with new "business cards," I started making my way around the base and meeting many of the players involved in my "erector sets." I am most interested in what happens when all the pieces/parts show up here at WDW. I have good tracking visibility but unsure about accountability of the material when it arrives. Millions of dollars worth of items need full accountability from start to finish. It helps when it's my tax dollars, too, paying for all this stuff. You can learn a whole lot more about the process by getting out, walking around, asking questions, and shaking hands vs. sitting behind a computer. Good time spent.

Dinner later...no workout...just chilling in my CHU. I did get good news from home today. I've been wanting to talk about this for the past two weeks but didn't want to spoil the surprise for Tin Man and Scarecrow. The USO has a program (see link on sidebar) on many programs called United through Reading. Basically, I was able to pick any new book off of their shelf that I think my girls would like. They are sold at a discount from the publishers and funded by non-profit organizations. Then, I went in a room alone and behind a camcorder. I read the first chapter in the book to them then took a few minutes to talk to them about whatever. That DVD is then sent home to Kansas along with the book. It's an awesome program and one that hardly anyone uses. Most have never heard of it but I'm spreading the word! I will try and do more of these. Today, the package arrived and the girls watched them...big hit! Thanks, USO!!!

It was a quiet Armed Forces Day. Another day, another day closer to home.  Bonus tomorrow...work day doesn't start until noon. I think it's time for my MOAC...Mother of all Coffees, from Green Beans.

Goodnight, everyone.
